Welcome
Sussex injury clinics was formed in 1990 as
a partnership of like minded therapists with a view to offering
a comprehensive range of high standard treatment options to all
sectors of the population. To this end, all therapists are fully
qualified and registered members of professional bodies with a
firm commitment to the sporting health and welfare of local people.
There is a major emphasis on educating sports people on injury
prevention, which also includes advising children involved in
competitive sport.
All consultations and treatments are conducted
on a one to one basis and are thoroughly assessed with an initial
consultation and examination, followed up by a variety of remedial
manual therapy treatments including mobilization techniques, soft
tissue manipulation, sports massage and deep massage for the relief
of stress. Electrotherapy equipment may also be used if thought
appropriate, such as ultrasound, interferential, laser, tens and
biofeedback.
Therapists are specialists in injury treatment but are also qualified
to offer nutritional and training advice.
Patients come from a wide cross section
of the population from international and world class athletes
including Sally Gunnell, professional footballers / rugby players
and national junior tennis squad members to those with a sedentary
lifestyle with ages ranging from 8 to 88.
Treatments emphasize tailoring rehabilitation
programs to the individual requirements whether that is sports
specific, employment related or pre and post operative care. An
arrangement with Withdean gym for injury rehabilitation has proved
very successful for all concerned.
In addition to the treatment of back and neck
injuries, there are referrals from Consultants, GP`s, and Osteopaths
/ Chiropractor for back exercise classes where specific postural
exercises are taught. The results can empower a return to sport
or employment and greatly improve quality of life to the extent
that an operation may no longer be required.
Injury prevention talks have been held
within organizations such as the Inland Revenue and Sussex Ambulance
Service is a major client.
Sussex Injury Clinics were approached
to devise a new fitness test for the Sussex Ambulance Service
and offer advice on lifting techniques. The group currently provides
all fitness tests to the service and treats employee's injuries.
Match day physiotherapy and first aid
has been provided to Hove Rugby Football Club. In previous seasons
there has been pitch side involvement with Brighton RFC., Lewes
RFC. and Sussex Thunder ( formally the B52s ) . There are also
associations with other sports teams / clubs in the area.
